Captain Jeff Bowen gave his life in the service of others while searching for victims of a 3 alarm fire at 445 Biltmore Ave. Captain Bowen is survived by his wife Stacy and their 3 children as well as his mother Laurel. Jeff Bowen grew up in San Bernadino, California. He graduated from Cajon High School in 1991, then moved to North Carolina and joined the Asheville Fire Department in 1998. He earned his Associate’s Degree (Fire Protection Technology) from A-B Tech in 2007. He then took the extra step of acquiring his Bachelor’s Degree (Fire Science/Management) from Fayetteville State University in 2010.

He worked his way through the ranks at AFD, becoming an engineer in 2004, then promoting to officer in 2007. He elevated to Captain in 2007 and heard more than one firefighter encourage him to test for Battalion Chief. Jeff was highly admired among his coworkers. Jeff married Stacy Cutshall in 2005. He had two daughters and one son.

His main hobby was hunting but he loved archery, going to the lake, and anything outdoors. He was a Notre Dame fan.
